Note: The ages for Elizabeth, John, Andrew, Frederick, and daughter Elizabeth all match the 1891 census records for the Needham family. Shoreditch is listed as Elizabeth’s birthplace and it is a part of greater London, and she listed Middlesex London as her birthplace in the 1891 census. There is no other family of Needhams which share the same forenames and ages in the correct location for the time this census was taken. The occupation also matches with this family, and it is possible that the census taker spelled their name wrong. Unfortunately this is all too common in census records. Rotherhithe is now a part of greater London and is only about 10 miles from Plumstead. If you have any futher information on this family please contact me and include Needham in the subject line. |

Andrew Needham, his wife Mary, and their daughter Mary, were living with his in-laws Thomas and Mary Amner in Plumstead, Woolwich. His profession is listed as machinist. Note: Elizabeth Needham was still listed as a widow, while James Creed was listed as a boarder. Elizabeth’s children Leonard and Beatrice Needham appear on this census. Her children with Mr. Creed also appear on the census, but curiously Christopher is listed with a surname of Needham while Alfred is listed as Alfred Creed. It is also possible that Alfred was James' son from a former marriage. |
